I got this book as a Christmas present and today's the 27th but I've read most of it already. GREAT book -- it's like a cook book. Given my undergrad work in biochem, it's just the right positioning for me. Tells how the chemical work together(carriers, bases, high notes...) and has a good variety of recipes for toiletries to make yourself: bath soaks, facial oil, and best of all, YOUR OWN PERFUME! Seeing as I'm working on distilling all those rose petals, scented geranium leaves, lavender, ginger and jasmine from my garden, I can become an amateur perfumer --!... It's great fun.

I own many books on this subject, but I find myself pulling this one off the shelf time and again. It offers a lot of basic information in an easy to use format. There are more complete lists of oils and their propertiesout there, but I like this book because it also includes recipes and advice, and inspires me to create my own blends. I recommend this to anyone looking for a basic reference or informational book on essential oils.

I really liked how this set came. I dont always know where to store my EO's but this was super convenient. It holds them in there securely. The oils were really clean smelling too. Oh, the uses on the card in the box were a nice touch. So many uses for these oils.

I love these fragrances, especially the Rosemary and Sweet Orange which I had never used. Only a couple drops are required so these will last forever. Great price! The best part was that I am new to the "natural living world" and there was a card with alternative uses for the oils in the box! Great bonus =)
Essential Oil Basic Sampler Set in storage case- 6/ 10 ml

This review is from: Aromatherapy (Paperback)

I would highly recommend this book. I attended one of Kathi's workshops on using herbs and essential oils for first aid and she is a wonderful teacher. I subsequently bought her book (one of the many she has published) and have found them easy to read and very informative. I have made at least 10 of her essential oil recipes for myself, my friends and my family with terrific results. I recommend this book for both experienced aromatherapists and novices alike. It also makes an excellent gift!

This is a very practical and sensibly written book that touches on every aspect of Aromatherapy and leaves you with a clear understanding of essential oils without getting too lengthy or technical. Occassional anecdotes make reading this book more interesting and the many charts make things easy at a glance. This is a great book for beginners and the more experienced as well.

It was my first time using essential oils and I was looking for a variety of smaller bottles to test out before I spent the money to buy the expensive larger bottles.

This was a good assortment of oils-- I use them when cleaning, with the laundry, and diffuse them into the air. The price was very compromisable and they we're delivered early with a free sample of bar soap from the manufactuer!

I've been using essential oils since the mid 60's, before the word "aromatherapy" was known by most people in this country. I've read just about every book I've been able to find on the subject, and no where else have I found an author that so completely makes the connection between aromatherapy and medicine. Dr. Schnaubelt explains what the constituents of essential oils are, what they do medically, how the different combinations found in essential oils form different synergies, and what ailments these synergies treat best. A must for anyone who wants to learn how to treat common ailments naturally, without drugs.

This distinguished organic chemist shares his in-depth knowledge of the particular current value of essential oils, for health on all levels. In an era when Western allopathic medicine has less and less appeal, this self-care method is a potent alternative, with roots going back to ancient times. Dr. Schaubelt has a gift for presenting in-depth facts and information in a way that is intriguing and easy to assimilate.
In the flood of "coffee table" aromatherapy books currently available, this is a much needed and welcome source for those truly interested in taking responsiblity for their own health.

This book is a thorough in-depth look at essential oils from a scientific viewpoint and with suggestions for their medical use. Thankfully, this author does not take a mainstream approach. For example, everyone familiar with essential oils has heard the constant warning "never take essential oils internally." This author not only debunks that popular advice, but suggests specific ways of taking essential oils internally for various medical conditions. Also, what is especially appealing about this author's approach is that he has applied his extensive research on plants into a very plausible explanation as to why essential oils have the healing properties they have. So this book tells us not only the "how", but the "why" as well. This book is definitely for the layman, so don't be discouraged by all the difficult sounding chemical names for the essential oil compounds, you won't need a PHD in organic chemistry in order to get an understanding of what they do for you.
The only drawback to this book, and the reason I gave it only 4 stars, is that the author devoted far too much print to his monologue of socialist ideology. He blames capitalism for all the woes of modern healthcare. Yet he says nothing about the fact that capitalism has done a pretty good job of making essential oils available to the general public. Otherwise, socialist nations like Cuba might be havens for essential oil procurement, which is of course a ludicrous notion.
